Day 1: Nyakalengija to Nyabitaba Hut (2651m ASL)
Begin your adventure in Nyakalengija. Arrive early to rent your hiking gear and meet your expert guide and porters. The trail leads you through verdant farmlands to the park gate, where a dense forest awaits along the Mubuku River. As you ascend a massive ridge towards Nyabitaba Hut, listen for the calls of black and white colobus, spot blue monkeys, and admire the brilliantly colored Rwenzori turaco. The first day's journey takes about 5-6 hours, setting the tone for an unforgettable trek.
Day 2: Nyabitaba to Guy Yeoman Hut (3505m ASL)
From Nyabitaba, the path veers into the heart of the bamboo zone. After crossing the Kichuchu bridge, ascend through the Kalyarupia rocks and cross the Mubuku River twice, aiming for Guy Yeoman Hut. Day 3: Guy Yeoman to Kitandara Hut
Embark through the Mubuku Valley, entering a spectacular garden of giant lobelia and everlasting flowers. Cross Kabamba falls and ascend to Bujogolo, the base camp for the historic 1906 expedition by the Duke of Abruzzi. Continue over the Freshfield Pass (4226m ASL) with breathtaking views of Mount Baker before descending to Kitandara Hut. The journey back to Guy Yeoman involves an ascent through the headwall of Mount Baker, into Freshfield Pass, then a descent down steep rocky trails to the Bujongolo rock shelter. This leg combines physical demand with awe-inspiring views, lasting 6-7 hours.
Day 6: Guy Yeoman to Nyabitaba
Descending from Guy Yeoman, tackle the cliffs of Kichuchu and cross the Mubuku River twice within a lush bamboo forest. Your descent continues to Nyabitaba, completing this circuit segment. Anticipate an evening arrival at Nyakalengija base camp, closing another day of adventure.
