Community commitment

As part of our commitment to the community, Rwenzori Summit Seekers is proud to channel 15% of our profits to support the Mihunga Community Literacy Center.

Established in 2017 by Rwenzori Summit Seeker founder John Kajangwa and group of fervent young individuals from the Kasese district, the center aims to become a cornerstone of the community's educational aspirations.

Recognizing the profound challenges of low literacy rates and limited access to quality education, the founders aim to bridge this gap. Their mission is simple: to ensure every individual, irrespective of gender, religion, or politics, has access to the tools and resources needed to uplift themselves through education.

One of the most pressing challenges the valley faces is a significant lack of textbooks aligned with the national curriculum. This shortage, coupled with the financial hardships many families endure, means that many youths prematurely halt their education. The center seeks to address this by not only providing these essential textbooks but also by offering a space for both in-school and out-of-school youths to learn, grow, and share their experiences. Beyond traditional education, the center also recognized the need for vocational training, especially given the region's potential for tourism. By equipping its community with knowledge about this sector and others, such as agriculture, the center ensures its members are prepared for a range of professional opportunities.

Additionally, in a world increasingly moving towards digitization, the Mihunga Community Literacy Center has made strides in computer literacy. It a small internet café, allowing its community to delve deeper into their research, further their knowledge, and connect with the broader world.
